New Look Cream Woven Leather-look Shoulder Bag and River Island Chunky Knit Cardigan I have had for awhile.

I have always wanted to learn ballet as a child. But my parents preferred that I learnt to play music. Ballet was almost every girl’s dream back then, and I will always regret not having had a chance to learn it…

So, in steps balletcore early this year. I admit I was fazed by the ultra bodycon silhouette of this style, but watching Ariana Grande in her ‘Yes, and?’ music video inspired me. Her style was not strictly balletcore in all its elements, but a few key pieces stood out: the tie-waist skirt, the shoes (not ballet flats but heels which were almost Mary Jane-like) and the cross-neckline top, for instance.

I realised I just needed to borrow a few elements from balletcore to achieve this look. First, I found a pair of River Island gold Mary Janes at a discount. Though they were not the usual ballet colour, they were better for my warm skin undertone and would make a great neutral. I already had a pair of black ballet flats, so the addition of gold shoes would match other bottoms, like my red skirt or cream jeans. Then I found this COLLUSION dress - a balletcore dream come true!

Basically, the elements I used from balletcore here are: the shapely silhouette, flat ballet-style shoes (Mary Janes fit the bill too), and while styling it up (see above pic), I used a pink cardigan as pink is one of the main ballet core colours, and the slouchy bag finishes the look! Voila, no need for bodycon! (The puffball skirt mimics a tutu in this case. Lucky me!)

I sized up for this COLLUSION Twill Mini Puffball Dress at ASOS, because I could hardly get my normal size over my head and was afraid I would rip it!

The River Island Gold Mary Jane Ballet Pumps were slightly bigger than my size, I will be wearing socks with those come A/W 2024!

Beautiful corset detailing at the back makes this a suitable choice for Romantic Kibbe types.

Dance is your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing. It’s the rhythm of your life. It’s the expression in time and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness and envy.

I also got this Gilly Hicks Active Tie Flutter Skortie from Hollister and am excited to wear it with polo shirts, jumpers, anything looser at the top while staying true to the balletcore look at the bottom!
