How to Style the Flippy Short Skirt
How to Style the Cream Flippy Skirt
Hanky hem skirts were everywhere this summer, thanks to a certain singer’s hit, which relabelled summer as ‘Brat’. I wasn’t going to give this skirt a second look until I saw her music video, brimming with fashion ideas. So I borrowed some…
Firstly, I did not go out to buy much. In the pic above, you can see I used a burgundy faux fur coat which I’ve had for ages, and knee-high boots which I’ve featured on the Home Page before. The hat, I’ve had for so long I don’t remember where it was from (H&M I think?).
The only additions were the River Island Black Studded Wide Belt in Black (it also comes in red), which I needed as I don’t have many belts, and the burgundy/red River Island bag. I would’ve preferred a crossbody bag, but this one was on sale at a great price, and I did not want to invest in an expensive bag.
In her music video, she used a khaki/olive green T-shirt with rolled up sleeves and a similarly-coloured belt and knee-high boots. I am still unsure if a muddy green suits my skin undertones, and so I got creative with the coat that was already in my wardrobe.

How to Style the Black Flippy Skirt
At first, I was more fazed by styling this skirt than the cream one. Not sure why. Tons of people go for black skirts. This black skirt would ensure I had something to wear on THOSE days, you know what I’m talking about, ladies. With the same knee-high boots, it was a dream.
Again, rummaging through my wardrobe I found the highly underused varsity jacket, so I brought it out for styling. With the GAP bag I have had since A/W 2023 (and the addition of a Rilakkuma Korilakkuma bag charm I got recently), the whole look was so cohesive and cute I was so happy!!
Bonus points with using a varsity jacket is that I can also pair it with the cream coconut skirt! Win-win!

TIPS for styling short flippy skirt:
In transitional weather, use knee-high boots (or OTK boots, whichever are in fashion).
A jacket or coat that just covers the hips is ideal for this skirt.
A wide belt is very useful for this look, it gives the look a focal point.
If you feel self-conscious with this skirt, Birkinifying your bag with charms will take attention off the hemline. The taller boots help too.
