Styling the H&M Black Voluminous Skirt
In 2022, the voluminous skirt was touted as fashion’s big news, but the British high street had not stocked it yet.
In 2023, H&M brought out two variations of voluminous skirt - plain black first, then the satin striped one. Reviewers were hard on the H&M Voluminous Skirt, but it sold out almost instantaneously!
I fell in love with this H&M Voluminous Skirt in Black, as I am pear-shaped, have a soft body type (Romantic or Soft Gamine) and love wearing skirts. Here are three ways to style the H&M Voluminous Skirt in Black, if you joined in the skirt madness!
With Bomber Jacket, Bodysuit, Belt and Kitten Heels
1) Bodysuit + Bomber
A cropped top with a voluminous skirt may be the choice of young women, but I prefer not to show my belly button, thank you. With the resurgence of the bomber jacket (go 80’s!), a bodysuit sits nicely under the bomber jacket (read: reveals nothing) and gives this look a shapely silhouette! Cinching with a belt is a must, to break up the monochrome look and give it interest. I chose a silver clutch as metallics are trendy in 2023 and echoes the pearly white of the bomber jacket.

2) Striped Top + Scarf
Stripey tops are the rage in fashion right now! Choose the best striped top for you (short sleeve, long sleeve or sleeveless) and remember to add a pop of colour with a scarf! I needed this scarf as this comfy H&M Striped Top is a dark cream, not bright enough for my Spring complexion. Here, I’ve worn my ASOS straw hat, but you can also go French and wear a beret with this look!

3) Padded Top + Chunky Sandals
Can you wear the voluminous skirt in summer? Yes of course! Lose the jacket, switch the bodysuit for a sleeveless padded top (the padded top balances the voluminous silhouette), and swap the covered heels with chunky sandals! These H&M fisherman sandals (details below) are perfect for summer, its chunky heel balances the voluminous skirted bottom. Just remember to paint your toenails!
